City Of Portland Although its not the capitol, (or my home town) Portland and its outlying communities hold nearly 2/3 of the population of the entire state. It is the only city in the state with buildings over 22 stories tall. |

Mount Hood
Located just a little over an hours drive outside of Portland, Mount Hood Meadows is a popular snow ski area. Timberline Lodge is where the horror film - The Shining - was filmed. The Wreck of the Peter Iredale This is a shipwreck near Astoria where I was born. 278 feet from stem to stern, she ran aground on October 25, 1906. She was owned by Peter Iredale of Liverpool England. |

The Wreck Today She is sometimes nearly covered with sand, then days later, unearthed by the tide. During World War II, the only enemy shells to strike Oregon soil landed near the Peter Iredale. They were fired at night from a Japanese submarine, and soared directly over the wreck into empty fields near Fort Stevens.
